It's important to know a little about the reviewer before you read their review.

I had never played a split screen - 2 person game before and I had no idea what to expect out of this game.

I like action heavy adventure games with a mix of platforming. I played this on my PS5 for about 20 hours. Did it meet my expectations? Let's find out and I hope this review helps you in making a decision about this game.

Gameplay

The game is a sequence of chapters, each chapter is drastically different from the last one and each chapter has something under its sleeve to surprise you and blow your mind. Not just that, it also has some nostalgia and other gaming references included which I found to be pretty entertaining.

Not knowing what this experience would be like since I had not played any split screen games before, I was up for a surprise. The gameplay is mostly centered towards platforming and puzzle solving but what adds to the fun is that you have to work together with your partner to solve all the pieces of the puzzle to progress and just that experience in itself elevated the overall level of the game.

There will be times where you would be complementing each other and times where you would be yelling at each other and it all comes down from its gameplay. You cannot progress if you don't help each other.

The game offer all kinds of platforming and puzzles for you to enjoy, be it a a simple 'jump over a barrel' or a hard puzzle where you really have to talk it out with your partner, it's all there.

Weapons & Skills

There are no skills to unlock or a character to build. It's all about how you get over an obstacle and progress in your journey with your partner.

As for weapons, you are given different weapons at each stage and you need to use them to eliminate enemies or solve puzzle, that's the extent of it.

Graphics & Technical Performance

I had 0 bugs while playing the game nor did I feel that there were any frame drops etc. The game worked flawlessly from start to finish.

The game is built on Unreal Engine 5 and look gorgeous throughout. Safe to say the Haze Light studio did good job optimizing and building this game.

Conclusion

In first few hours I had a feeling that how is this game any different from any other platformers out there like Astro Bot, but as I played more, the perspective and unique tricks a 2 player game brings to the table is mind blowing. As you progress through levels new tricks come out and you are throroughly entertained by it, especially the last chapter.

Split Fiction is one of those games that you will thoroughly enjoy when you are playing it. Talk about it for next couple hours with your partner in crime and then move on, but you'd be glad that you went through that experience because games like Split Fiction are a rarity and if you ever get an opportunity, don't pass on it.

Story & Characters

First off, Split Fiction is a 2 player game. The story of this game is simple yet interesting. You are a writer and you get mixed up in someone else's world and you need to work together to get out of an unwanted situation. The story feels even better with the 2 protagonist involved. They have contrasting views to life and while one is optimistic, the other is more pessimist.

The two of them take turns to share each other's world and untangle a lot of personal problems as well as the big problem at hand.

Everything unfolds beautifully throughout the game. It's even more interesting if you happen to chose the character who is more like you, just adds to the fun!

My goal is to bring you latest gaming news, info, clips and conversation through various platform, be it X, Insta, Tik-Tok, youtube or this blog, where I share my in-length reviews and gaming opinion with the hope that it resonates with some fellow gamers.
