It's important to know a little about the reviewer before you read their review.
This is the my first time playing any kind of Metal Gear Solid game. If you are wondering why do you even need to read a review from a MGS noob then think about how this game was received by players who have never played a game in this franchise? Sounds fair? then let's dive in.
It's not like I had never heard about MGS games, I have seen people talk about it all the time especially when I joined X (spawnYaard), it's when I found that how much people love this game and I decided to find out why, and this felt like a perfect opportunity.

Going into the game I was aware that the devs will keep the gameplay experience as authentic as possible and they did their best to preserve it. As soon as you stat the game the devs ask you if you have played MGS before, they also offer the settings option where the game will look like the original especially with camera angles.
I decided to go with the option of playing it in current generation camera angles and I'm glad I did it because the game felt dated from the get go and I don't know if I would have survived the classic camera angles.

First Few hours
As I started playing the game the game screamed Hideo Kojima - Pure Cinema - A cold blooded soldier, haunted by the past events taking a dive of an Airplane into enemy territory to rescue a VIP. This very first cut scene sparked a hope in me that I'm up for a good ride!
As the gameplay starts, you are taught a few basic skills and they scream at you again and again that stealth is the most important thing in the game. So i tried being stealth for a minute only to find out that stealth wasn't really done properly, you could walk next to or in line of sight of enemies and it would not ring a bell.
This uncooked stealth system led me to go on offensive and then I started gunning down enemies in the game at the every opportunity I got and it definitely sped up the game.

As I Grew into the Game
After exploring a bit and running into the first boss the game literally felt hilarious when the boss started dancing to load up his gun and I understand that it's for authenticity but man Hideo Kojima would have not done that in 2025!
Irrespective of whether the 1st boss was funny or not, it was the actual boss fight that looked very promising and delivered on it.
I learned a lot more unique mechanics of the games, something I had never seen before. Things like cutting the bridge rope to slide an enemy off it. Or you could hang on the bridge and get past him. Or you could shoot him or I'm sure there were other ways to get past him and that's when I realized it's what Hideo Kojima does it in every game, for example Death Stranding, where there were more than one way to accomplish a task! My interest in the game grew!

Combat has a lot of variety
As I said earlier, Kojima ensures that there their are more than one way to accomplish a task and leaves it to the players on how they want to achieve it but at the core of it it was about the gun combined with stealth play.
Guns that offer poison bullets to Cardboard boxes to hide and navigate your way around was incredible. But it all felt like a gimmick than actual part of the gameplay. Why do I need to use all those options when I can just shoot an enemy in the game and progress? And for that same reason I did not use some of these gimmicks offered by the game.

The Boss, Eva and Snake
The characters in Snake Eater were very good. Everyone was written to come out as the coolest version of themselves including the bosses but the ones that stood out the most were The Boss, Eva and Snake.
The Boss had a very calm personality and she was the one Snake kept chasing only to be knocked down by the Boss time and time again and that's when Eva came to Snake's rescue! I wonder what would Sanke do without Eva!
I don't want to talk too much about them because it screams spoilers but in short characters were the best part of the game!

Boss Fights
A review of MGS Snake Eater is not complete if I do not talk about the boss fights! Every boss has a trick up their sleeves and boy you need to use your brain to figure it out.
There was not a single boss that disappointed me. There was one boss in the game where if you logged back in after a week after you got to that part in the game, the boss would be dead, it blew my mind!
The penultimate boss was a bit off a stretch but I feel like that's almost every game. The use of CQC to fight some of the bosses and enemies was a stand out experience.

Conclusion
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater managed to preserve the authentic experience of original game and I could tell by how dated and clunky the controls felt. While it may have been an excellent experience for the original players, not so much for a new player of this franchise. I would have appreciated this remake much more if they modernized this game properly.
Some of the in game things just don't fly for current era and were outright laughable or janky but one thing that stands out for me is definitely the boss fights and the Kojima experience i.e more than one option to solve a problem.
Hideo Kojima would have never made this game in 2025, how do i know? Because he made a Death Stranding 2! You can check out my Death Stranding 2 review at Life is a Game Magazine.
